There is a small 5V connector on the PATA module. Can I format the drive directly via the IDE port, or is it necessary to supply 5V power ?
Category : Setup / Operation
The 40-Pin IDE Flash Module offers two ways to supply power, either via the small power cord (5V connector) or through the IDE connector (Pin 20 provides 3V voltage).
As some IDE ribbon cables don't have Pin20, they need the 5V connector to input the power.
If your SSD can be detected by BIOS, you can format your device either way.
If possible, we recommend using the 5V connector for a steady power supply.
